| Shift Points | |
|
| General Information | |
There are only 4 types of tachometers in Initial D.
The layout of each is shown below.
The shift points which are commonly referred to, are points on the tachometer when the red needle reaches a certain RPM number.
At the start of a race, it is assumed that the gas pedal is fully depressed. This is known as "hot start". The shift points below are listed for hot starts.
Experts and critics please read the following:
The list of shift points below are general shift points.
The safest bet when starting out is to follow these points.
Later on when a racer gets more comfortable with their own vechicle, the shift points might vary between 0.1 - 0.5 RPM.
Time Attack wise, these shift points will do their job just fine, battle wise, slight shifts earlier or later might let your car gain the lead. This depends on the individual.

| Last Gear | |
The last gear is determined by speed and not RPM.
Generally 6 gear cars and 12 gauge cars shift later than 5 gear cars.
Last gear shift point varies depending on course.
The [ ] square brackets represents 6 gear and 12 gauge shift points.
The + symbol means that the shift point should be at that speed or higher.
